Are you a good candidate for Refractive Surgery
LASIK is the most commonly performed refractive surgery procedure. LASIK is actually short for “laser assisted in situkeratomileusis.” Lasik has advantages over other procedures, including a relative lack of pain afterward and the fact that improved vision is usually noticeable by the very next day.
A good candidate for refractive surgery must be at least 18 years old and have a prescription that falls within the scope of correction. Good candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Have a stable prescription
- Free of eye disease such as cataracts or glaucoma
- Free of eye viruses and in good general health with no autoimmune or collagen vascular disease
- Not be on any medication which makes you immunocompromised
- Not be pregnant or nursing
